Cookie Policy.

A clear explanation of every cookie Centipid sets, what it does, how long it lasts, and exactly how to disable it if you prefer — across all major browsers and devices.

Section 1

What Are Cookies?

The Short Version

Centipid uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies to run the platform, plus optional analytics cookies on our marketing website. We do not use advertising cookies. WiFi portal pages use only session-management cookies. You can opt out of analytics cookies at any time.

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They allow websites to remember information about your visit — such as your login status, your preferences, or which pages you've viewed.

Cookies are not programs and cannot run on your device. They cannot access other files on your computer, and they are not inherently harmful. Most web services require some cookies to function correctly.

In addition to traditional cookies, we may also use similar technologies such as web storage (localStorage, sessionStorage), web beacons, and pixel tags. These work similarly to cookies and are covered by this policy.

This policy applies to cookies used on centipidmarketing.com, the Centipid dashboard (app.centipidmarketing.com), and WiFi captive portals operated through the Centipid platform by venue operators.

Section 2

How We Use Cookies

We use cookies for the following purposes across our different properties:

  • Authentication — keeping you logged in to the Centipid dashboard so you don't have to sign in on every page.
  • Security — CSRF tokens that protect your account from cross-site request forgery attacks. These are strictly necessary and cannot be disabled.
  • Preferences — remembering your dashboard settings such as timezone, language, and display preferences.
  • Analytics — understanding how visitors use our marketing website (centipidmarketing.com) so we can improve it. We use Google Analytics for this, which can be opted out of.
  • WiFi session management — on captive portals, a session cookie confirms that a guest has authenticated to the network. This is technically required for WiFi access and cannot be disabled while using the WiFi.

We do not use cookies for advertising, retargeting, interest-based profiling, or selling data to third parties. We do not use cross-site tracking cookies.

WiFi Portal Cookies

When a guest connects to a WiFi network powered by Centipid at a physical venue (restaurant, hotel, gym, etc.), the captive portal page sets a small number of cookies for technical session management purposes.

CookiePurposeDuration
portal_sessionConfirms the user has authenticated to the network. Required for WiFi access — without this cookie the portal cannot verify the user is connected.Session (clears when browser closes)
portal_consent_tsRecords the timestamp of marketing consent given at login. Used by the venue operator to maintain consent records as required by data protection law.Matches venue's data retention policy
portal_uidAn anonymous session identifier used to associate the login with the correct network session for bandwidth management. Does not contain personal data.Session
Portal cookie note

The portal_session cookie is strictly necessary for WiFi authentication and cannot be disabled while using the venue's WiFi. It exists solely to keep your session active and does not track you across other websites. It is deleted automatically when you close your browser. The portal does not set any advertising or tracking cookies.

Each WiFi portal is operated by an independent venue operator. If you have questions about how a specific venue uses your data, please contact that venue directly. The venue's privacy notice is displayed on their captive portal.

Section 6

Third-Party Cookies

We use a small number of third-party services that set their own cookies. These are limited to analytics on our marketing website and social login functionality in the dashboard.

Section 9

Do Not Track & Global Privacy Controls

Some browsers support a "Do Not Track" (DNT) header that signals websites not to track you. Centipid honours DNT signals on our marketing website — if your browser sends a DNT signal, we disable Google Analytics tracking for your visit automatically.

We also support the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser sends a GPC signal (supported by Firefox with Privacy Protection, Brave, and others), we treat it as equivalent to opting out of analytics cookies.

The Centipid dashboard does not respond to DNT signals for strictly necessary session cookies, as these are required for the platform to function.

Section 10

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as we change the cookies we use or as the law requires. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.

If we add new non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent through the cookie preference panel before setting them. For changes to strictly necessary cookies, we will update this policy and notify you via the dashboard notification system.
